Things to Do
  • A Leisurely Day Tour of Anding
Anding was historically the territory of the "Tackalan" settlement, affiliated with the indigenous Siraya Baccluan community. "Tackalan" is a Siraya term meaning "hay harbor." Before the Taijiang Inner Sea silted into dry land, Tackalan served as a bustling fishing port. In the 3rd year of the Daoguang reign (1823), the Zengwen River flooded and breached its banks west of Sucuo Jia, altering its course and depositing massive quantities of silt that gradually filled the Taijiang lagoon. Tackalan consequently ceased its maritime role and transitioned into an agricultural village.
  • Visiting the Cow Market of Shanhua and Tasting Sugar Factory Ice Treats
Sitting at the heart of the Jianan Plain and representing Tainan's geographical center, Shanhua features fertile soils and advanced agriculture, symbolizing traditional Taiwanese rural bounty alongside modern tech, art, and historic heritage. Industrial attractions include Shanhua Brewery Tourism Factory and the Shanhua Farmers' Association Ice Cream & Leisure Center. Cultural and heritage sites include the municipal monument Shanhua Qing'an Temple and the century-old Shanhua Sugar Factory. Visitors can also experience the Cow Market of Shanhua, one of Taiwan's few remaining traditional cattle markets, held on calendar dates ending in 2, 5, and 8. It is a fantastic destination for families to explore traditional food and historic rural market customs!
  • Exploring Fresh Perspectives in Xinshi
Roughly oval in shape with flat terrain and patchwork croplands, Xinshi forms part of the fertile Jianan Plain. Originally a Siraya settlement that evolved into "Xinshizi," it remained an agricultural center for generations before transforming into a high-tech hub with the advent of the Southern Taiwan Science Park. Once a major edamame growing area in Taiwan (celebrated by the annual Edamame Festival), Xinshi now actively promotes its white wax apples. Family attractions include Tree Valley Farm, the Adventure Experience Park, and the National Museum of Prehistory, Nanke Archaeological Museum. The 150-year-old Yong'an Temple is revered as the "Premier Temple of Taijiang." Blending agriculture, technology, and living heritage, Xinshi offers a richly multifaceted travel experience!
