April and May each year is the peak period for fireflies. The following 13 firefly species have been found in the Meiling region: Luciola cerata, Luciola kagian, Luciola anceyi, Luciola gorhami, Pyrocoelia prartexta, Lychnuris formosana, Pyrocoelia analis, Lamprigera yunnana, Stenocladius bicoloripes, Curtos sauteri,  Luciola cutithorax and Luciola filiformis. The Luciola cerata in particular makes the most attractive viewing.  The complementary events during this period offer not only education through plan but also teach the next generation about conservation and help strengthen family bonds.
