International Players for the VI WBSC U12 Baseball World Championship Enjoy Tainan's Tourist Factories and Cultural Monuments

The VI WBSC U12 Baseball World Championship kicked off on July 29th at the Asia Pacific International Baseball Training Center in Tainan, and as of Aug 2, matches have been played for five consecutive days. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-Che tasked the city government team to make use of this (August 3) off day to arrange a cultural tour of Tainan for the participating teams from Italy, South Korea, Venezuela, Mexico, Czech Republic, Panama, South Africa, and the United States, as well as the Chinese Taipei team. The youngsters from all over the world were invited to take advantage of this rare opportunity to get to know the diverse face of Tainan and to interact with the young players at the Fuward Hotel Tainan.

Tainan Tourism Bureau Director-General Kuo Chen-Hui noted that in today’s Tainan tour, the Tourism Bureau assisted in the planning of 5 tour routes. In addition to famous historical monuments in Tainan, the tours also included a variety of interesting tourist factories. The tours took the young players to the Confucius Temple, Tainan Art Museum Building 2, Eternal Golden Fort, Chikan Tower, Sacrificial Rites Martial Temple, Grand Mazu Temple, Greetings from the Whale, Anping Fortress, Anping Old Street, National Museum of Taiwan History, Eminent Tourist Factory, and Chimei Happiness Factory, so that the young players from all over the world can take advantage of the rest day to explore the best of Tainan. The Bureau of Sports of the Tainan City Government also arranged for students from 11 local elementary schools in Tainan, including Guinan Elementary School, Liren Elementary School, Ancing Elementary School, Denan Elementary School, Yonghua Elementary School, Yizai Elementary School, Chongsyue Elementary School, Chongming Elementary School, Kaiyuan Elementary School, and Shanhua Elementary School, to present the youngsters from all over the world with gifts full of local characteristics, such as pineapple cakes, milkfish crisps, and souvenirs with sword and lion patterns, to promote friendship and city exchange through the rare event.

All the youngsters from different countries expressed their desire to learn more about the history and culture of Tainan. The Tourism Bureau arranged different morning and afternoon tours for each team; In the morning, the tour focused on the tourist factories near the hotel where the participants were staying, including Eminent Tourist Factory and Chimei Happiness Factory, so that the contestants can have a unique and interesting experience. Dick Hsieh, Chairman of Eminent Luggage Corporation, was also present to welcome the budding players from all over the world. In addition, the teams also tasted southern Taiwan’s signature fast food establishment Dan Dan Burger, which offers a mix of Western-style fast food and Taiwanese snacks, and 8818 Pizza House, a 30-year-old local restaurant in Tainan. Other stores visited included the likes of The Freen Burger and Xiao Dong Men Curry, exposing the players to the diverse culinary culture of Tainan, the capital of food.

In the afternoon, tours were specially arranged for the international players to visit the famous monuments and famous scenic spots of Tainan, with professional tour guides and interpreters accompanying. Among them, the Italian team visited the National Museum of Taiwan History, Anping Kaitai Mazu Temple, Anping Fortress and Anping Old Street, as the team had specified before the trip that they wanted to visit the historical sites of Tainan. The fabulous weather also added to the enjoyment of the tour. The Mexican and Czech teams were scheduled to visit the Tainan Art Museum Building 2, but because of the great weather, they took the initiative to visit the Chikan Building, the Sacrificial Rites Martial Temple and the Grand Mazu Temple, showing that the oriental temple culture is very attractive to foreign athletes. The Panamanian and South African teams visited the National Tainan Living Art Center to enjoy the exhibition of Taiwan aboriginal costumes and the "Formosa the Beautiful" oil painting exhibition by the artist Lin Chih-Hsin. Ms. Bai Hui-Lan, a member of the Tainan City Council's Indigenous Committee, was also present to welcome the young players and to take a group photo. The U.S. and Chinese Taipei teams visited the Tainan Judicial Museum to learn about the history of Tainan, while the Chinese Taipei team finished the tour early and continued to practice. The U.S. team, however, wanted to continue the tour, and went to Anping Kaitai Mazu Temple, Anping Fortress and Anping Old Street, and expressed their desire to purchase souvenirs in Anping Old Street. In addition, the players from the South Korean team chose to rest and prepare for the next match after many days of competition, while Team Venezuela took a guided bus tour of Tainan's historic sites and attractions.
The Tainan City Tourism Bureau stated that the VI WBSC U12 Baseball World Championship 2021 is to be held from August 4 to August 7, with a Super Round and a World Championship Final. After a day of rest, the young players from all over the world will be ready for the next challenge of the championship. Members of the public from all over the nation are invited to come to Tainan to cheer on the Chinese Taipei team, and to take advantage of the summer vacation to watch the WBSC Championship games, taste delicious food and visit the scenic spots by following the sightseeing itinerary of the international players.
