Tainan City Government participated in the 17th International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE HMCM 2023) to boost Vietnamese travel to Tainan. The exhibition was based on the theme of Tainan 400 and featured motifs such as cheongsam to promote retro-tourism. A variety of Tainan specialty produce including dried mango, dried pineapple, pomelo coffee and pomelo ginseng as well as cultural creative merchandise were also showcased the expo. More than 20,000 members of the public and international buyers showed strong interest in the beauty and style of historic Tainan.

Tainan Mayor Wei-che Huang stated that Tainan will welcome tourists from around the world with a series of events on the theme of Tainan 400 and the Taiwan Lantern Festival in 2024. The latest international promotion included travel elements popular with the Vietnamese people including Tainan’s great food, great shops, and great sights. Travel pamphlets in Vietnamese were also provided. He hoped that Tainan’s exhibition at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam will introduce more Vietnamese visit to the cuisine of Tainan. Mayor Huang also encouraged everyone to participate in the 2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival and other activities.

According to Director-General Lin Kuo-hua of the Tourism Bureau, many new immigrants from Vietnam settle in Tainan. Non-stop Tainan-Ho Chi Minh flights have been developing at a steady pace due to the growing number of people flying for business or visiting relatives. An all-new charter service on the Tainan-Da Nang (Vietnam) route was also introduced this year. Tainan there hopes that the development of Tainan’s international air routes will continue so that Tainan travel will become the first choice of Vietnamese travelers to Taiwan.

To welcome Tainan 400 in 2024 and attract more international travelers to the celebrations, City Hall has taken great pains with the cultivation of international markets such as the continuing to training multi-lingual tour guides during COVID-19, providing a friendly travel environment, participating in and advertising at major international travel exhibitions, chartered flights, and 2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival. City marketing is backed by efforts to provide international visitors with more variety and excitement during their tour of historic Tainan.
