In 2024, coinciding with "Tainan 400" and the "2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Tainan," the Pokémon GO City Safari event will take place from March 9th to 10th. For the first time, Pokémon such as "Bouffalant," typically found in New York, along with the exclusive "Skiddo," which can only be found in Pokémon GO City Safari, can be found in Tainan, attracting trainers from all over the world!
Mayor Huang Wei-che noted that the Pokémon GO City Safari coincides with the 2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival, just two days before its commencement. He encourages participants to explore Tainan during the day while playing Pokémon GO, allowing them to discover the distinct beauty of both the northern and southern parts of the city. In the evenings, attendees can enjoy both traditional and modern lantern displays at the festival. He hopes that visitors and trainers will extend their stays to fully experience what Tainan has to offer.
Lin Kuo-hua, Director-General of the Tainan City Tourism Bureau, elaborated on the collaboration with Niantic Inc. to launch 30 official routes for the first time in Taiwan. While 21 Routes cover Tainan’s urban area with themes like "Lucky Journey" and "Gathering Blessings," nine routes allow exploration of the northern regions, featuring attractions such as the "Green Trail of Guanziling" in mountainous areas and the "Tree of Life in Jiangjun" in coastal zones, and the "Traditional Pilgrimage to Luermen Matsu Temple" in the religious route, showcasing Tainan's diverse landscapes.
The Tourism Bureau also mentioned that trainers can combine their route with visits to various temples and choose to stay overnight in temple-affiliated pilgrim lodgings in Anping, Annan, Xiaying, Beimen, Xinying, Yujing, Dongshan, Nanhua, Xuejia, and Longqi Districts, totaling 1,085 rooms in 49 pilgrim lodgings. Alternatively, they can opt to carry simple luggage and head to legal camping sites in Beimen, Nanxi, Baihe, Xinhua, and Houbi, totaling 738 camping spots across 9 locations. This allows for a unique training journey. For more accommodation information, camping sites, and experiences of overnight stays in pilgrim lodgings, please visit the Travel Tainan website.
