Tainan's culinary scene continues to shine on the global stage! Michelin Guide recently announced its new restaurant entries for March, with a total of 2 establishments from Tainan making the list. These include Hara Peko in the Zhongxi District and Wenpapa Goose in Beimen District. This recognition highlights the appreciation and acknowledgment of Tainan's delicious flavors by culinary experts. The city government will continue to work closely with local businesses to strive for more Tainan eateries to be listed.

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-Che expressed his delight that 2 more restaurants from Tainan were newly listed by Michelin in March, following the inclusion of 2 establishments in January this year (2024). With delicate French and Japanese-style cuisines and decades of experience in goose delicacies, these restaurants have received Michelin's discerning approval. With the March entries, Tainan now proudly hosts 36 Michelin-starred restaurants and 24 Michelin Bib Gourmand venues, making a total of 60 recognized establishments.  As Tainan marks its 400th anniversary, the city is bustling with various celebratory events, and both domestic and international visitors are invited to explore and enjoy its renowned culinary offerings, as highlighted by the Michelin Guide.

Director-General Lin Guo-Hua of the Tainan City Tourism Bureau detailed the unique offerings of the newly recognized restaurants. Hara Peko, which launched last year (2023) in the artistic Snail Alley, specializes in French and Japanese-style cuisines. The restaurant features a monthly rotating menu, a carefully curated sake list, and an open kitchen where guests can observe the chefs at work.  Meanwhile, Wenpapa Goose uses only the finest geese raised for 90 to 100 days. Their signature dish, Saltwater Goose, is prepared by boiling the goose in saltwater and rapidly chilling it to lock in the juices. Their goose rice bowl, made with rice from Tainan's Houbi District, is served with tender goose meat, shredded bamboo shoots, and homemade goose oil scallion crisp. The restaurant also offers goose soup, special dipping sauces, and chili sauce for patrons to enjoy.

The Tourism Bureau also highlighted the blooming of various spring flowers across Tainan in March, including cotton tree flowers, pink shower tree, hollyhock, orchid tree, and pomelo flowers.  Exciting events such as the 2024 International Music Festival (3/2-5/5), the 2024 Dongshan Coffee Estate Exchange Tournament (3/16), and Red Ball Tainan (3/29-4/7) are also unfolding, inviting everyone to Tainan to enjoy the flowers, play, and indulge in delicious cuisine.
