The first thing that comes to mind when Tainan is mentioned is the city’s great food. Other things you can do in Tainan include checking in at the shooting locations of TV shows, touring the historic buildings, and visiting art and cultural venues. Tainan also offers great tourism options for outdoor activities. To continue promoting Tainan 400 in international markets and attract more international visitors to visit the city and take part in Tainan 400 festivities, Tainan City formed a partnership with GoPro, the world-famous action camera brand. A press conference was held at the Yonghua Civic Center today (19th) for a sneak peek at highlights from the event. The video showcased the most exciting aspects of Tainan City to the whole world through the first-person perspective of international creators. Mayor Huang Wei-che stated that Tainan possessed the advantages of being a mountain, seaside, farming, and urban city. Following the example of city marketing in other countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Switzerland, Tainan partnered with the international brand GoPro to invite its content creators to produce new, novel city marketing content for Tainan. By having “international travelers tell the story of Tainan in the first-person”, the campaign targeted young international backpackers. Itineraries that combine food and outdoor experiences expanded the scope of Tainan tourism for overseas travelers. Experiences such as horse riding at Guanmiao, kite surfing at the Golden Coast, outdoor exploration and hot springs at Guanziling, kayaking at Hutoubi, kayaking in the mangroves at Shuang Chun Coastal Recreational Area, and yachting in Anping Harbor along with the specialty foods of each district were combined to create a more diverse travel experience to encourage international visitors to book a stay in Tainan! Tainan 400 peripherals were also prepared and presented by City Hall to Eddie, the GoPro representative. Eddie and the 12 creators also received a gift box of Tainan’s best-selling in-season mangoes. The guests from afar were able to enjoy five different varieties of mangoes in one go!
Director-General Lin Kuo-hua of the Tourism Bureau thanked other vendors including Starlux Airlines, Silks Palace Tainan, KKday, and Wu Win for their assistance during the GoPro Creator Camp. With their help, suitable booking channels and promotions were made available for international travelers looking to visit Tainan. These included: High Speed Rail discounts with Starlux airfares; different types of accommodation packages offered by Silks Place Tainan; discounts for overseas travelers on KKday’s Tainan-themed web page including the mobile broadband SIMs and iPass used by travelers during their itinerary; and vouchers for Bib Gourmand-listed Ayu Beef Shabu Shabu and the Anping Canal Cruise. All of the associated packages were made available for traveler bookings and will no doubt draw more tourists to Tainan. Special thanks go to all the businesses that took part in this itinerary promotion event to showcase the fun side of Tainan to travelers across the world.
GoPro’s Asia Pacific Marketing Director Eddie Chu noted that GoPro collaborates closely with the tourism authorities of many countries and cities worldwide. In response to global social network content and marketing trends, GoPro Family creators and GoPro’s official IG social media marketing resources in each country were leveraged to develop travel and experience itineraries with tourism units. Creators from different countries could then able to experience the character and tourism activities of different cities for themselves. During this process, creators shared their experience with the audience from a first-person experience. They could also use their own creative expertise to interact with talented creators from other countries and come up with the high-quality multimedia content required for city marketing. The mutually beneficial arrangement means everyone wins. GoPro is also gifting the mayor with a GoPro HERO12 action camera package to welcome him to the GoPro Family!
In addition to local Taiwanese creators, creators from other seven countries including the US, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia were also invited for a total of 12 creators. The experience itinerary is now in its third day. Future items on the itinerary include a Youbike tour of historic buildings in Fucheng, and being a Master Caterer for a Day. At the end of the event, the media provided by the creators will be distilled by City Hall into a highlights video for international marketing. This will hopefully establish Tainan as an international brand for experience travel. Members of the public are welcome to follow the key platforms used for this event, including: the official “tainantravels” IG account for Tainan Travel to view more exciting contents from the event. Key outputs will be progressively released on Tainan Travel and the Tainan Travel fan page.
