The Sun Young Association was established in 2009 with supporting children from single-parent, new immigrant, economically disadvantaged, under-resourced, and dysfunctional families as its mission. The Association has organized charitable activities over the years in support of disadvantaged children. On April 19 and April 20, 2025, Sun Young took 28 children to the Hutoupei Scenic Area for an outdoor activity experience. Director-General Lin Kuo-Hua from the Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government stated that the Bureau is fully behind charitable activities aimed at assisting the disadvantaged. He hoped that the children could relax in the great outdoors, take part in interesting experiences, and learn from Mother Nature to courage and confidence to face challenges in a relaxed, positive and bold manner.

The event was organized by the Tree 2 Ocean natural education team (上杉夏海本然教育團隊), commissioned by Sun Young. The Tree 2 Ocean team is dedicated to the practice of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and a long-time proponent of “businesses giving back to society.” Recently, it has partnered with four universities under the University Social Responsibility (USR) concept to create outdoor camping events that combine inclusive education and natural experiences. The latest event included guided tours along the park’s Phytoncide walking trail, tree-climbing experience, camping, outdoor cooking, and bonfires. The overnight camping and nighttime sensory exploration experience were filled with excitement. The Tree 2 Ocean team praised the Hutoubi park for its extensive hinterlands and beautiful scenery. These made it a great place for experiencing the outdoors where people can learn to keep consumer electronic products at an arm’s length, get close to nature, and absorb more healthy Phytoncides.

The camp took advantage of the resources unique to the Hutoupei Scenic Area’s Discovery Area to create three themed activities:
1. Creative tree-climbing and rope swing experience
The rope swing facility developed by the team combines local elements and roping techniques to create an all-new, fun and challenging experience. Children could use the strength and skill of their own limbs to climb up to new heights under safety supervision. The exciting and educational activity taught them how to expand their horizons.

2. Nighttime sensory discovery experience
The rainforest coach and team members showed the children how to “quieten down” in a lightless natural environment. Using their ears to listen to the sounds of nature at night served to hone their senses. The experience was more than just an environmental education session. It was also a way to connect with one’s inner self. Participants not only learned more about the types of sounds in nature but also how to learn to their own inner voices as well. Mastery of both the inner and outer environments helps them make the right choices.

3. Morning discovery physical fitness task
The children started a new day in the Discovery Area when it wasn’t even half past six in the morning. The climbing nets were used to design fun tasks that required physical fitness and teamwork. Through grabbing, hanging, and balancing, the children were able to strengthen their bodies, leadership skills, and team rapport. The event excelled at training team members to work together, and all the children had a lot of fun.

The children also made use of natural materials they collected within the park to learn about natural aesthetics and the sustainable use of resources. The nighttime camp activities helped break the ice between children from different families and bring a smile to their faces. Counselors from the Association felt very gratified as well. At the end of the camp, the children helped with the clean-up and sorting of rubbish. The lesson in responsible use set an example for other events.

The Tourism Bureau stated that the Hutoupei Scenic Area has over a century of history. The park itself is filled with diverse flora and fauna, and is well-suited for the development of diverse outdoor experiences. It is therefore a perfect choice for people looking for challenges or a place to recharge. The Bureau welcomes inquiries about hosting events at the scenic area. Custom experience itineraries can be tailored by the scenic area for different customer types. For more information, please contact the Scenic Area Management Section.
