The Hutoupei Scenic Area in Xinhua, Tainan City, has gained another new attraction. The first grasshopper-themed eco-museum in Taiwan that was set up in the scenic area many years ago, has been refurbished. The center now not only presents the grasshopper ecology in detail but also has the entire grasshopper life cycle from egg to adult on display so that visitors can learn more about this interesting insect. Tainan City Huang Wei-che stated that the team at City Hall lobbied the Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for tourism grants under the Forward-Looking Infrastructure Development Program. Having previously won the 2025 Yuan-Ye Award with new recreational facilities such as the East Bank Discovery Camping Area and Rain Tree Square when it first opened at the start of the year, the Hutoupei Scenic Area opened its much anticipated Family Environmental Education Center to the public today as well. The newly completed Center will provide the public with a quality and multi-purpose leisure experience. Nearby recreational facilities for age groups are now all integrated into the family education framework in another upgrade to the quality of travel services at Hutoupei Scenic Area.

The Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government today (17th) held a festive opening ceremony for the Hutoupei Family Environmental Education Center at the picturesque Hutoupei Scenic Area. For its opening ceremony, the revamped Hutoubi Environmental Education Center invited junior explorers filled with curiosity to take part in an unusual “Grasshopper Housewarming Party” that immerses the children in a summer adventure filled with sound, lighting and imagination, and interact with natural ecology through the carefully designed sensory activities.

Director-General Lin Kuo-hua from the Tourism Bureau said that the Hutoubi Environmental Education Center was designed to promote the philosophy of nature, sustainability, and inclusion. It has now been reopened after the reconfiguration of internal spaces, adjustment of visitor lines of movement, and the use of eco-friendly design to create a green eco environmental education venue for learning through play. The Center is open all week from 08:00 to 16:30 (midday break 12:00 ~ 13:30) except on Fridays. Five sessions of the unusual “Grasshopper Housewarming Party” were held as the opening event, with the public invited to take part. Such was the public interest in family eco education that all the sessions were booked out almost immediately. A charity session was also arranged so that children could explore the rich ecological environment at Hutoubi through their five senses. The “Five Treasures of Xinhua Industry and Cultural Event” was also held by Xinhua Farmer’s Association on the day. The public was invited to take part in the young farmers’ market to experience the unique local charm of Xinhua’s produce and Hutoupei for themselves.
