On May 25, the Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government took part in the “Passport to Taiwan Festival” held at the Union Square in New York City, USA. The Tainan international tourism brand of “Truly Tainan” was used as the theme for the exhibits to promote Tainan tourism to the American people. Exhibits at the Tainan stall included Tainan-only historical building souvenirs, cultural and creative merchandise featuring Sababoy, Tainan's ambassador of tourism, and up to ten types of tourism pamphlets. Marketing activities such as pinball machines and surveys were also held on the day. Tainan dried mango was given out as a gift for a win on the pinball machine or completing the survey. Crows of Taiwan fans thronged the event, including tens of thousands of people with a love of Taiwanese culture and homesick overseas compatriots. Guests, including Ambassador Lee Chih-Chiang from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, Mayor Paul Kim from the City of Palisades Park in New Jersey, and Section Chief Chuang Ching-cheng from the New York Office of the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, all visited the Tainan booth and joined in promoting the allure of Tainan tourism.
Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che stated that the city is aggressively expanding its international tourism brand. The city is also continuing to take part in international trade fairs and tourism promotions to showcase the diversified charms of Tainan’s tourism, culture, and produce. City Hall in particular has been participating in the Passport to Taiwan event since 2023. The cultural interactions and creative displays have served to highlight the allure of Tainan on the international stage. This year’s Tainan booth chose “Truly Tainan” as its theme to promote the charm of Tainan’s cultural diversity and bountiful produce to international travelers. Everyone is invited to take a trip to Tainan for themselves to experience the most authentic Taiwan.
Director-General Lin Kuo-hua from the Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government stated that the City Hall is continuing to expand the market for international tourism through different means. Participation in international trade fairs and overseas marketing events was the best way to connect with international visitors and understand their actual preferences/needs. The choice of “Truly Tainan” as the exhibition theme by the Tourism Bureau is also a sincere invitation from the city. The Tainan booth featured a photo booth with Anping Old Fort as the background, and combined it with an interactive pinball game. Successful strikes were rewarded with Tainan souvenirs such as dried mango to give the public a fun introduction to the rich culture and produce of Tainan. Handpicked souvenirs limited to historical sites such as Koxinga Popcorn, Moon Elder Gummy Candy as well as cultural and creative merchandise with Sababoy were also given out to communicate the distinctive culture and lifestyle of Tainan. A variety of tourism pamphlets were available on the day, including Guanziling Hot Spring, fruit produce, walking tour routes, and Tainan maps. The line-up of travel information aimed to educate participating members of the public about Tainan.
The City Hall is actively working to attract international tourists by advertising Tainan in the target markets and participating in overseas travel fairs to bring Tainan to the attention of international travelers. In terms of travel services, empowerment training was organized for foreign language tour guides to help front-line personnel welcome international travelers. The cultivation of a friendly international travel environment will help make every visitor to Tainan feel at home. Being invited by the Taiwanese American Council of Greater New York to take part in the Passport to Taiwan festival, the largest Asian cultural event in the New York region, this year saw the City Hall take advantage of this opportunity to market the international tourism brand and highlights of Tainan. Overseas compatriots in the Americas as well as international travelers are welcome to come and experience the rich culture and unique atmosphere of Tainan.
