The “2025 World Bicycle Day in Taiwan” event organized by the Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications features 46 road segments nominated by MOTC agencies and local governments. The rides will start at the same time on all routes to draw an outline of Taiwan and support World Bicycle Day. The Tourism Bureau and the Siraya Scenic Area Administration have jointly adopted segment 18 (Donsghan -> Sanhua) and mobilized nearly 100 riders for the Tainan leg. The lowland ecology, water caltrop farms, and canal green way emphasize the importance of the irrigation works along each section of the Chianan Canal first built over a century ago in watering the Chianan Plain. Riding along Greenway with the verdant landscape on either gives the event an idyllic atmosphere and introduces Taiwan to the world on World Bicycle Day.

Mayor Huang Wei-che said that low-carbon tourism has been an important issue promoted around the world in recent years. Green travel based on low energy consumption and low pollution can help reduce carbon footprints and GHG emissions. In addition to incorporating Tainan’s local nature, ecology, scenery and humanities into the World Bicycle Day event routes, Tainan also boasts many other bike paths that people can ride based on their own personal preferences and ability. They can not only enjoy a different side to the beauty of Tainan, but also use trains, public transport and other transportation arrangements to go on a 1 ~3day low-carbon vacation in the city.

Director-General Lin Kuo-hua said that route 18 to which joint invitations were sent with the assistance of the Siraya Scenic Area is well-suited to family outings, and is also a cycling route that balances natural ecology with human history. The sight of the sun shining on the water caltrop farms is breathtaking in its beauty. On the other side, we have the Wushantou Water Reservoir and the Yoichi Hatta Memorial Park, traditional Chinese-style temples, Baroque composite buildings from the latest Japanese period, and the Chishan Longhuyan Temple. These introduce people to tolerance between different cultures. The route is close to the routes MSTW07 ~ 08 near the world-class Sanhaijun greenway. Cyclists can therefore experience a very different kind of “two-wheeled journey” along this route filled with natural beauty and historical implications.

The Tourism Bureau added that Tainan now has nearly 600 UBike bicycle rental stations. The MOTV has also published a “Tainan” tracking website where tourists can enjoy cycling for fun. Everyone is encouraged to make the most use of this function.
