The Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government is backing the “Green Lifestyle - Green Travel” program in response to the global trend towards green travel and sustainable tourism. Local and overseas visitors are encouraged to participate in low-carbon sustainable travel in Tainan and stay at accommodation providers with the Green Mark. The Ministry of Environment recently began conducting national road shows on the Green Mark and the Tainan session is scheduled for July 11. Mayor Huang Wei-che has also asked for the industry to take part. By applying for the Green Mark and other sustainability-related certifications, operators can not only review and improve their business processes but also effectively reduce their operating costs, fulfill their corporate social responsibility, and make a contribution to net zero sustainability.

Director-General Lin Kuo-hua from the Tourism Bureau noted that another four accommodation providers in Tainan City have recently received their Green Mark including Hotel Cozzi (Ximen Tainan), Just Sleep Tainan Hushan, The Place Tainan, and Crown Plaza Tainan. Tainan City now has 14 accommodation providers with the Green Mark and these account for almost one-tenth of all Green Mark hotels in Taiwan, so is reflective of Tainan’s leadership in sustainable tourism. The Ministry of Environment is proposing to amend the Green Mark standard due to the end of the eco-hotel policy. The certification will be renamed to “Green Mark Hotel Accommodation Provider” to cater to the different scales of hotel and B&B operators. The national information roadshow of the Ministry of Environment will host its Tainan session on July 11. Topics include the verification, application, and mentoring mechanisms for the revised Green Mark certification. The information session has a limited capacity, so Director-General Lin reminds all operators to book early so they don't miss this precious opportunity for boosting their sustainable competitiveness.
