The Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government is launching a new Taiwan Tourist Shuttle “168 Hubi Old Street Route” shuttle service on August 1 to better connect all the tourist and leisure attractions on No. 168 Southern Highway in Tainan City. Fourteen services will depart daily, connecting the Sinshih Train Station, Xinhua Old Street, and the attractions along No. 168 South Highway such as the Xinhua Fruit and Vegetable Market, Hutoupei Scenic Area, Xinhua Forest, and Dakeng Farm. The new services provide tourists with a more convenient low-carbon transport for connecting to the Taiwan Railway and tourist shuttles for in-depth exploration. The press conference today (7/31) was attended by Mayor Huang Wei-che, Deputy Secretary General Yin Shih-Hsi, Director-General Lin Kuo-hua of the Tourism Bureau, Senior Technical Specialist Wu Yu-Chih from the Transportation Bureau, Director Hsu Chu-Long of the Siraya National Scenic Area Administration, District Head Li Yi-Long of Xinhua District, Chief Secretary Chao Wan-Lan from the Sinshih District Office, Councilor Yu Chu-Ching, Councilor Li Wei-Chih, Village Chief Liu Gui-long of Dong-rong Village in Xinhua District, Village Chief Li Cao-Sheng of Taiping Village in Xinhua District, as well as representatives from Legislators’ and Councilors’ offices, Tainan tourism industry associations, and Assistant Manager Hong Long-yuan from Shing Nan Bus Co., Ltd. A public invitation was issued to everyone to try out the new route during the summer break and discover the unique charms of Xinhua in Tainan aboard Taiwan Tourist Shuttles.

According to Mayor Huang Wei-che, the integration of tourism resources and transportation on the Mountain Route has always been high on the list of traveler demands. The new Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Route 168 Hubi Old Street Route starts from the Sinshih Train Station so that visitors can jump aboard once they come out of the new railway station. From there, they can travel directly to all the lowland attractions along the No. 168 South Highway including the “Hutoupei Scenic Area”, “Xinhua Forest”, and “Dakeng Farm.” Foodie destinations include the Michelin-rated “Wang Ja Smoked Mutton”, “Lien Wu Chiao Lamb Chop Soup”, as well as Xinhua District Head’s personal favorites of “Thai Pastries and Fruit Cakes”, “Gu Gu Cha Ye Dan (姑姑茶葉蛋)” and “Ji Ye Village Freshly Bakes (吉野村現烤蛋糕).” All these options are well-suited for visitors planning one or two-day excursions to explore the Damujiang Old Street atmosphere and the natural beauty of Tainan.

Director Lin Kuo-hua of the Tourism Bureau said that the “168 Hubi Old Street Route” was named after Xinhua Old Street and the Hutoupei Scenic Area, two key stops on the route, to make it more identifiable and connected to the local context. Future efforts will be made to strengthen the link between the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle brand and the local culture of Tainan. Additionally, the coaches used for the new route will all feature the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle 3.0 livery. The bright colors and lively pictures will make the buses more recognizable so that travelers will remember this tourism transportation at first sight. The connecting of stations, Old Street, Scenic Area and farms along the route will hopefully revitalize local food & beverage, agricultural produce, market and accommodation industries. Route-related themed tours and promotional packages are planned in the future so that transportation will no longer be just about moving around. Instead, it will become a catalyst that combines industries and people traffic to drive the vibrant development of Tainan’s tourism industry.

According to the Tourism Bureau, the 16.3 km route will be operated by Shing Nan Bus and each trip will take approximately forty minutes. There will be 14 regular services every day (first departure at 8:20, final return at 17:00). The fare will be distance-based and cost NT$53 for a full, one-way trip. A total of 12 stops have been designated along the route: Sinshih Train Station, CTBC University of Technology, Guotai Building (Xinhua Old Street), Xihua Bust Station, Xinhua Fruit and Vegetable Market, Hutoupei Scenic Area, Bihou, Koubi, Singda Forest Farm, Sunchang, Nanping Farm, Dakeng Leisure Farm. We suggest that travelers set off from Sinshih Train Station in the morning to explore Hutoupei Scenic Area and Xinhua Forest to enjoy the wilderness walking trails and lakeside scenery. For lunch, stop by the Michelin-recommended Wang Ja Smoked Mutton. Check in at Dakeng Leisure Farm in the afternoon to enjoy its natural roller coaster, flying fox, and rope suspension bridge facilities. On the following day, go to Erliao to watch the sunrise and cloud sea. Travelers can adjust the itinerary to suit their own needs. Please do not hesitate to take advantage of the shuttle service. You can also check route information on the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle website before setting off for the day.
