Michelin Guide, the world-renowned gourmet food guide, published today (19th) its full list of chosen restaurants. This year, a total of 61 restaurants from Tainan, including 30 Bib Gourmand restaurants and 31 Michelin Recommended restaurants, made the list. The Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government has also updated the “Michelin Guide Tainan Food Map.” Visitors from throughout Taiwan are invited to follow the map and track down all the best eats in Tainan!
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che said that food is a major draw for visitors to Tainan. Local diners with decades of experience, classic Taiwanese restaurants, exotic cuisine, and fusion cuisine with innovative flavors all represent the diversity of local cuisine in Taiwan. Congratulations go out to the 30 Bib Gourmand and 31 Michelin-recommended restaurants for this remarkable recognition. Tainan's culinary excellence continues to shine, thanks to the dedicated efforts of these outstanding establishments. Local and international visitors should consider planning multiple trips to Tainan to try out all the different foods and curate their own personalized Tainan food guide.
Director-General Lin Kuo-hua of the Tourism Bureau stated that five new restaurants from Tainan made the Michelin Guide this year. The Haute Cuisine category included the “Fukai” restaurant in the East District that combined fresh local ingredients with contemporary European cooking techniques to create innovative set menus with complex layers, where every dish is an unforgettable surprise that embodies the unique taste of Tainan; “Liang Liang Table” in the North District combines modern cooking techniques with Taiwanese culture, where seasonal ingredients, the bold yet polished seasoning, as well as cozy dining atmosphere all provide guests with a sophisticated and welcoming gourmet experience; “Mayu Cocoon” is located in a quiet alley in the Central-West District. Japanese izakaya cuisine is served during dinner as set menus. For the late evening menu, individual dishes can be ordered to enjoy with wine for the perfect late-night feast. A number of local eateries were also featured, including “Chuan Chia Congee” in Anping District, whose signature milkfish congee and stewed fish belly are made from high-quality fresh fish and perfectly bring out the sweetness of the fish for gourmands to enjoy. “Chun Tai Hao Milkfish Balls” in the Central-West District serves up signature crispy balls made from pure milkfish paste, repeatedly pounded to achieve their special crispness and bounce. The combination soup contains a variety of homemade balls and milkfish belly. When enjoyed with the firm and slightly sweet braised pork rice, these traditional delicacies will make you keep coming back for more.
“Fukai”, the newly added haute cuisine restaurant, said that the staff have worked hard to bring the restaurant up to its current standard for the last two years, so inclusion in the Michelin Guide has really boosted morale. They also know that this is just the beginning and a sign that they are on the right path. The restaurant will therefore continue to review its own efforts and set new targets. “Liang Liang Table”, another representative of European cuisine, said it was honored to be included in the Michelin Guide. The recognition comes as they celebrate the first anniversary of their opening. Liang Liang Table will not only explore new future possibilities but also continue to move forward with determination.
The Tourism Bureau stated that the “Michelin Guide Tainan Food Map” has been concurrently released on the Travel Tainan website. Everyone should download and add the map to their collection right away so they can enjoy a mouthwatering excursion to Tainan as the summer holidays draw to a close. On August 30, two Tsong-phoo-sai (master caterers) “Tsai Jui-Cheng from Dong Xiang Taiwanese Cuisine” and “Chou Jung-Tang from Chu Hsin Chu” that have been recommended by Bib Gourmand for four straight years will co-host the “Four Seasons Banduo by Tainan Master Chefs - Summer Event” to serve up their signature dishes and classic cuisine. A carefully prepared easter egg is guaranteed to surprise as well. A banquet with a hundred tables will be held at the Sicao Dazhong Temple. The last few remaining places can be booked through the ibon kiosk at 7-11 convenience stores throughout Taiwan or the ibon website. A sincere invitation is extended to everyone to come and enjoy the food and tourism of Tainan.
