The Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government is actively pushing for the internationalization of the city’s brand and traveled in September 2025 to Thailand to take part in the regional tourism promotion event held by the Taiwan Visitors Association. Between September 12 and September 14, the Taiwan Travel Fair was held with much fanfare at Emsphere. Under the city brand of “Truly Tainan”, the Tainan Pavilion drew local crowds through its displays of historic city motifs, specialty foods, diverse agricultural produce, and interactive experiences. A large-scale B2B industry matchmaking session was then held on September 16, 2025, at the Shangri-La Chiang Mai hotel to focus on the professional travel market. Business exchanges were used to expand the partner network and demonstrate the international competitiveness of Tainan as a tourism destination.

Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-Che stated that Thailand is the second-largest economic entity in ASEAN, behind only Indonesia, and has always been a key source of visitors to Taiwan in the Southeast Asian market. Thailand is also currently without a doubt the third largest source country for visitors to Taiwan in Southeast Asia. Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications statistics indicated that 306,724 Thai travelers visited Taiwan for tourism in 2024, an increase of 2.12% on the same period in 2019 before COVID-19. The market is therefore showing strong signs of recovery and growth. Thai visitors are mainly interested in experiential tourism with a particular preference for food, history, culture, shopping and entertainment. In addition to its rich cultural heritage and famed street food, Tainan is also a city where tradition meets innovation, making it popular among Thai tourists. The latest promotion event is not only a response to post-COVID market trends but also highlights the tremendous potential of Tainan in international markets.

According to Director-General Lin Kuo-hua from the Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government, Tainan adopted “Truly Tainan” as its international tourism brand position for the travel fair in Thailand. A design filled with festive red colors was used to foster an enthusiastic atmosphere. In addition to preparing 20 or so tourism pamphlets to introduce Tainan’s culture, food, walks, film, and agricultural produce to the Thai people, a variety of Tainan-only souvenirs such as Matsu Crackers and Yue Lao Fruit Gummy, were also on hand to promote the city’s historic features and temple culture, as these are popular among Thai visitors too. Well-known Thai travel influencer Ratto was invited to introduce Tainan’s local food, culture, and tourism activities using language and perspectives familiar to the Thai people. The popular Thai band “No one else” also gave a performance and promoted Tainan tourism. These not only strengthened the link between Tainan and young people in Thailand but also took advantage of social media’s amplifying effects.

The B2B industry matchmaking session held in Chiang Mai on September 16 was one of the key promotional events that attracted more than a hundred local businesses. Tainan City Government employed presentations, pamphlets, and specialty souvenirs to highlight the rich resources of “Tainan is the Place to Visit.” Matchmaking and exchanges were also used to push for the listing of more Tainan-centered travel products in order to strengthen the city’s visibility in Thailand’s professional travel market, and boost opportunities for material collaboration.

The Tourism Bureau added that the Thai market has recovered strongly after COVID-19 and the demand for travel to Taiwan has continued to climb. By participating in this promotion event organized by the Taiwan Visitor Association, Tainan was able to connect directly with consumers and enhance industry cooperation through B2B. In the future, City Hall will continue to work with the TVA and other local/overseas partners to promote the charm of “Truly Taiwan” together and persuade even more Thai travelers to visit Tainan’s unique blend of culture, food, and hospitality.
