Mayor Huang Wei-che said that tourism in Tainan City is continuing to see strong growth. More star-rated hotels represent not only an improvement in the city’s travel accommodation capabilities but is also an important step in Tainan’s transition to an international tourism city. Mayor Huang added that the City Hall is now actively pushing a range of international tourism events and city brand marketing. The new 5-star hotel will be vital for receiving international guests. He therefore hoped that travel accommodation providers could work with the city to continue improving their quality of service and introduce innovative experiences that would show the world the unique charm of Tainan.
Director-General Lin stated that the Formosa Yacht Hotel has embraced local culture since its opening and is a strong promoter of specialty tourism in Tainan. In 2024, the hotel was also chosen to host the state banquet for the presidential inauguration and provide foreign guests with the best service. More recently, a themed event was held in collaboration with the famous international IP of “Shaun the Sheep.” A combination of local specialties and international elements was used to show off the diverse charms of Tainan tourism. The hotel’s “Spring Plum Pork Ribs” was featured in the state banquet and was also included in the “Top 60 Specialty Souvenirs of Tainan” in 2025. The dish not only carries on the local culinary legacy but also embodies Tainan’s tremendous depth in both food and tourism development.
According to the Tourism Bureau, the city currently has 9 star-rated hotels. The Grand Banyan Hotel and the Formosa Yacht Hotel were the latest to receive the 5-star rating. Their certification reflects the continued improvements in quality made by the travel accommodation industry in Tainan. It also symbolizes the push by local tourism services to move up to higher levels. Tainan will be able to provide local and overseas guests with better service, but will also draw the attention of the whole world through its urban charms.
