Unique and old school style
Firstly, the entrance itself, towards the staircase to go up, is so unique! It is so narrow some of us have to turn sideways, breathe in and go through. The interior design is very old school, with wooden floor and old wooden furniture. However, they serve good drinks and I had Lei Cha which I had to grind it by following instructions. Interesting place! -

後來心想,肯定有別的門呀! strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. -

City Oasis
Busy waitresses are catching up the order fulfillment. All others has no haste. Time stops momentarily after you enter the narrow door. It’s a renovated house that keeps the old time Tainan mood. Food and drinks are average but you don’t come here for Michelin stars but to realize where you are or where you’re from. Good spot to stop by for a coffee break. -

Very unique setting with a genuinely narrow door but average food & drink
I went to the Narrow Door Cafe twice during my trip to Tainan (I stayed next door at the CaoJi Book Inn). I was immediately attracted to it by its name and the fact that the alleyway to access the cafe is genuinely narrow, you have to squeeze your way through until you reach the staircase. Upon entry to the cafe you're immediately struck by its coziness - the colour scheme is warm, there are some interesting trinkets adorning the wall and the restroom is at the end of a peaceful little outdoor garden. The menu is mostly made up of drinks (tea & coffee) with a limited number of snacks available. Both times I went I was disappointed with the tea I ordered, they were presented well but they were almost undrinkably sweet. Service was slow considering there were only a handful of customers there. It's absolutely worth a visit for the interesting setting, but don't expect wonders from the menu.
